Monster Hunter Tri - GS short tutorial + New purchases

Been awhile eh?

PC died, got it fixed, softwares etc installed, etc etc, so took forever...

Any way:

Recent brought Hatsune Miku: Project Diva 2 and Ys Seven, Since dollar's so good. Done a few rounds of Diva2, and it's challenging and awesome! I'll see if I can upload some vids soon enough.

MH3 Troll + Disaster stroke, PC died + SC2

So did my best to troll the other day.

I went into a 51+ recruiting room for some random runs, this guy, HR51 in full Urag+ and a HBG came in, said nothing and posted a jho quest. Since I was bored and totally got put off by his attitude, I decided to troll him, and have some practice hammering Jho. I swapped to full vangis with jho hammer P, proceed to warn him I've done nothing but leech jho for to get my entire set (I actually lanced). Then I told him I just sold my amphirite P because I think lance's too boring (which is kind of true).

The run begins with me clumsy trying to find openings to SP the very fast moving head, eventually fails a lot because of the lag. However, as the run goes on, although jho's head is still really really far away, its movement becomes a lot easier to predict.

It seems, lvl2 charge is easier to land/faster than super pounds. You can get jibbed by the jump maul really easily in rage mode if you open yourself after SP. Same deal when it's hungry. It might bite when it turns. Unlike lance though, you can't counter, so out range and then lvl2 charge on the head (which is kind of tricky).

Rock throw should be a free SP, if you know where to aim. Dragon breath's way too dangerous... just stay away. Actually got 1 stun! yay go me!

The troll ended as soon as we got it to limp. An LS died and that's 3/3 for us. Wish I had video'ed it.

HDD failure during a black out... No HD PVR for a while... No editing for a while...

That's... quite sad...

SC2:WoL is AWESOME. I'll probably throw in a proper review later on, but call me a fan boy, on the release day, I've literally done nothing but installing(2hrs), patching(1/2 hr) and playing(10min) that thing.

But of course, this only adds insult to injury as my computer lies in a state of slumber...

Short Hammer tutorial + status update

Did a small hammer guide, will upload soon. Uploaded! Rawr! Meanwhile, a hammer combo flowchart.

Walled no longer. Ala downed! Thanks to some awesome Aussies helping me out. GG guys! I'll see if I can sort them out and Youtube them too.

MH3: Walled.

Brilliant darkness... 'nuff said...

Until I can finish farming my Sabertooth G, (and before that, if I could get Agnaktor + lance or Byakko), and that I can get a non-fail team, I'll stay put and farm HR other things for fun.

On a side note, absolutely obliterated that ian the other day. 5 stuns, and the 2 LS'ers thrashed ian meanwhile. White sharpness + Feyline slugger is awesome.

Double trouble + short hammer tutorial

Did some more MH3 lately, but since Ala's quite hard on the first few attempts, I decided to just farm HR a bit more (for fun and profit).

High rank - Double Trouble (1/2)

High rank - Double Trouble (2/2)

And now, something I've always wanted to do. I've seen too many hunters out there struggling with hammers, decorations and in fact, the game in general. I've put this tutorial together out of my velvet hide farming. Hope it can be helpful.

Fastest Rathian run to date + Gobul gameplay (or not)

A few days ago, I had probably the fastest ian run with a group of lance (me), 2 LS, 1 GS.

It was basically, stab stab stab, counter roar stab, stab, counter swipe stab, counter charge, paralysis, face broke, paralysis clears, stagger, stagger again, counter roar, paralysis again, tail got chopped, counter charge... By the 4 minute mark, ian limps and are ready to fly away, finished it off with a charge + finishing stab.

All other 3 were sub HR30, and I was only using a Gobuluka Muraaka. It feels good to play with some decent players...

Edit: and it seems that I've linked that vid already... me bad...
Uploading part 1 and 2 of high rank Troublesome Pair, and encoding a light hammer tutorial. Expect more videos! BWAHAHAHAHA!

Monster Hunter Tri - High rank - Advanced - Grab a Gobul

WEEEE,

New video's up... Yes, I was been a jerk in the beginning. Though it is true, Gobul on land is so much easier than in water... Once knocked out, its lantern can be broken really easily...

Monster Hunter Tri Update + (crappy) Gameplay

Finally farmed Agnaktor enough to make my low rank Agnaktor set for my lance and my first fire lance. Full Agnaktor set is mighty sweet to look at. Dayme sexy indeed.

Did a low rank Barioth test run (Since I was multitasking and can't afford to spend full effort onto it), and guard+2 is just WOW. I can imagine it will fair better against Barroth/Uragaan.

While I had some free time, finally bothered to edit some MH3 gameplay from my early days. Los stays in air a lot now, and its behaviour is a lot more erratic. It is not impossible to hammer, and I have gotten the hang of it (finally).

The set I was using in the video is Full alloy with a perception gem and +9 perception charm, the earliest offensive set I constructed. Hammer is Vodyanoy HammerFang. It is now upgraded to Hammer "Echo" and am LOVING it.

More MH3 GameFAQ board funnies

Source: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/943655-monster-hunter-tri/54984772

TC: Since I apparently can't buy Rations, how do I make them? What do I need to combine?

hector85:
you combine the a button + supply box. 100% chance of success unless your team mates do it faster.

MiruLisu:
Raw Meat + BBQ Spit

TC:
I don't need to learn how to make all this other crap, I want to know how to make RATIONS.

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva

Proper review will come slightly later.

Since I've gotten MHTri, MHFU no longer attracts me all that much any more. Especially since I have farmed pretty much everything I desired...

(Golden Obi for GSword, NormalS set (Full Blango, gemmed to get auto-reload, evade dist+, faint prob half, NormalS up), Pellet set(Mix NargaX and Conga, for evade dist+, PelletS up, capacity up) and Pierce set(mix NargaX and CenaeturZ, PierceS up, evade dist+, loading +2), Ultimate LShan Cannon(normal spamming with all but ice elemental support), Ancient Dragonwood Cannon (yama parts, pellet goodness), Evildarkwind (Narga parts, awesome piercing clipsizes and great affinity).
/shameless brag

I've taken the MHFU UMD out and swapped it with Hatsune Miku: Project Diva. For those of you unfamiliar with vocaloid: Wikipedia entry on vocaloid . Essentially, it's a rhythm game, where an artificial Japanese girl sings a song and you press a button. Much like guitar hero. Now I haven't played guitar hero (extensively), though I hear that the timing in Hatsune Miku is much less forgiving. It matters not, however. The game is easy to get started with and fun to play. Game menu is entirely in Japanese, but ClearTranquil did a wonderful job translating enough into English so non Japanese speaking otaku's (*cough ~ yours truly *cough) can enjoy it, too.

Why did I mention Miku? I thought I've seen plenty of difficult songs (yes, I'm looking at you Miracle Paint), but hell. Hatsune Miku's disappearance normal mode is by far the most difficult I've encountered. Ridiculously fast, and the beat rhythm during chorus, wow, if you miss one, you are likely gonna go downhill from there.

Oh well, trying harder I guess.

Fought Lagarius twice today, on MHTri. Repelled him the first time, but he totally owned me the second time (when I actually have to slay it). Underwater combat makes babies cry.

Short update on MHTri

Clocked 21hrs in total after a week or so in MHTri. Summing up some opinions here.

Greatsword
Movesets basically hasn't changed. Added a new sword slap attack, which adds KO value, if hits the head. The attack is probably quickest (not considering kick). Reach is OK. Especially if used after kick. Damage is not impressive (co-ef of 18%). KO value is comparable to most hammer attacks (less superpound/golf swing).

Personally, I don't think it is that useful, espcially if you need to stay an extra .5 seconds in front of a monster slapping it. Level 3 charging a turning monster is still going to be the staple for GSword I believe.

Switch Axe
So I had an opportunity to test out some switch axe goodness. Axe mode offers fast(er) movements, great but rather slow movesets with excellent reach. Awesome for clearing out trash. Overhead swing, whilst slow, offers and impressive 54% coeffiicient. Slash combo is basically useless. 10% co-ef each hit, drains 20 stam each swing, leaving you wide open for attacks. Don't use it. Even if you have mega juice.

Sword offers a relative fast (think long sword w/o spirit gauge) movement set, all with around 30% damage coefficient. Sword mode also grants ESP (at yellow sharpness or higher), and phial activation (damage boosting, in other words). Has soem excellent burst damage potential.

However, it seems sharpness of SA does suffer. I found myself zoning and sharpnening very frequently. Thank god whetstone ain't expensive.

Hammer
Some minor changes. Nothing biggie. Still golfswing goodness.

Bowgun
Changed big time. Instead of crafting a bowgun, you make frames, stock and barrel separately and assemble them, forming a BG. depending on the weight, it maybe a HBG, MBG or LBG. Depending on which frame/barrel/stock you choose to use, you will get differing RF, bullet avaliability etc. A very new and unique system.

1st look at MH Tri

So I picked up my copy of MH tri at my local EB, rushed home, installed my Wii and started rocking up the long anticipated tri.

(Boring history begins)
So I first encountered MH series whilst at Japan June 09. Tri was due to be released during Aug the same year. Since MH was really a big thing (probably THE big thing), there were alot of publicity surrounding it. I heard of MH series from an otaku friend of mine, but never paid much attention. Very coincidentally, I got a copy of 2G in a bundle with a PSP. Though never played 2G even today, it planted enough curiosity in me, which eventually lead me to purchase a copy of MHFU. And yes, I got hooked ever since.
(boring history ends)

I clocked about 4 hours last night into the game. It is still as addictive as the previous instalments.

Graphics
Graphic is a lot better rendered than MHFU, though quite low res compared to the standard of hardcore gaming lately (PS3/XBox360). Hardly Capcom's fault, as Wii was never known for graphic superiority. Texts are a bit small for my liking, since I needed to sqint a little bit from time to time (though this could be due to my shortsightedness). Environment is beautiful, as to MHFU. Quest hug, the Mogo village is a lot smaller than Pokke, which is a plus IMO (since you don't have to spend 10 seconds running from one end to another. Cut scene is fully 3D animated, which is a plus.

Control
You may choose to use the nunchucke (awkward) or Wii classic controller (finger hooking FTW). You still need 2 DPads/analogue sticks (one for moving, one for camera, unless you use L trigger for centering of the camera). Good news is that finger hooking haters can use the two sticks. Bad news is that finger hooking hurts a lot now, since the stick and D pad are on different elevations. One change I dislike about Tri is that, the dodge after GS swing will use the PoV of the character, rather than camera.

For example, you have your character facing the camera, did an overhead smash, and held down LEFT in the analogue stick while tapped X. Now, instead of rolling to the LEFT of the camera (RIGHT of the character), it rolls to the LFFT of the character. This left me rather unsettling, and dodging in the wrong place at the wrong time. I have yet tried another weapon than GS. Hopefully it can be fixed one way or another.

Edit: I fail. This can be changed via options.

Underwater control is slightly difficult, but definitely a fun new way of expanding the MH horizon. So hope we could have done that in MHFU. No longer need to bring 10 sonic bombs to Plessy hunts, or avoid hitting it in water.

Gameplay (May contain minor spoilers. Read at your own risk)
Well, MH was never known for epic storylines, spoilers really matters not. Maps are a lot smaller, which means it feel as if the battle is a lot fast paced. Underwater hunt is ridiculously fun and well designed.

New moves were added to GS (and other melee weapons, so I was informed), and adds a new dimension to the game. Yes, I did enjoy knocking out that poor kelbi and carved the horn off it (this is actually quite clever). Yes, I did try to knock out the great Jaggi, failing miserably and THEN realised I was provided with 2 flash bombs. (Should have just used hammer instead). And yes I did encounter the great Lagorise (signature monster for Tri, much like Tigrex for F2 and Naruga for FU). But this is so over done... even in FU there was a gathering mission where you could encounter Tigrex.

NPC dialogues are a lot better designed. They actually have a personality/sense of humour now (not like the dry one's black belt instructor used to have in FU). One slight disappointment was the lack of starter weapon. In FU, you were given a full set of starter weapon, and you are free to choose any one to your liking. In Tri, you were given a SnS and a GS. I guess this decision was made to not overwhelm new players, so I can kind of understand it.

Concluding remarks:
Definitely awesome. Capcom is trying to break into the US/Eur market with Tri. I felt the advertisement campaign was a bit unorthodox. The game is definitely solid (so far). I have yet gone into the realm of online play, which Capcom was kind enough to waiver the fee for non-Japanese players.
