TC: Since I apparently can't buy Rations, how do I make them? What do I need to combine?

Flashbomb fun

Flashbombs are akin to nuclear reactions. First the bomb detonates releasing a flurry of ultraviolet light, this excess energy is then absorbed and released by particles in the air, this is how you are blinded no matter where you look.
Monsters are stunned by the intense math behind these reactions, where as hunters small brains just can't comprehend so they are only exposed to the flash.
It's quite elementary really.

flashbugs are put into a clear casing, there is a switch that when pressed kills the flashbug in the casing, when a flashbug dies it releases an excessively strong blinding bright light. the hunter presses the switch and throws the bug, soon after death it emits it's flash.

then you combine it with something that seems like a bad idea to eat
